Installing the register on a tablet
How to install the register app on an Android tablet, sign in to the venue, and what to do about updates.
The register runs on an ordinary Android tablet. It is installed as an app — a thin shell around the same program that opens in the browser.
A browser is not allowed to talk to a printer over the network directly. Printing to the receipt and kitchen printers works only from the app. Everything else — orders, payment, reports — works in the browser too.
Installation
- On the tablet open the download page: the link and QR code are on the Download page and in the back office, “Settings → POS”, the “Installing the till on a tablet” card.
- Press the big download button. The file downloads like any ordinary file.
- Android will ask for permission to install from this source — allow it. This is the usual warning for apps not from a store: the register is deliberately not on Google Play — why.
- Open the downloaded file and confirm the installation.
- Launch the app and sign in: the venue address is filled in by itself, sign-in is with the employee's PIN.
Updates
The register program updates itself: a new version arrives like a website update, the tablet does nothing. Updating the app by hand is rarely needed — only when the shell itself changes (for example, support for new hardware was added).
When it is needed, an “Update the app” button appears in the register menu. If there is no button, there is nothing to update — you have the latest version of the shell.
It means the server holds a build with the same version number. Write to support — this is our release mistake, not a tablet problem.
Several registers in one venue
Install the app on each tablet and sign in with your own PINs. The registers work with a shared shift: receipts are visible to everyone, there is one Z-report, with a breakdown by employee. One receipt cannot be closed by two registers at the same time — the server will not allow it.
Kitchen mode
The same tablet can be switched to kitchen display mode — then it opens straight on the dish queue. The mode is turned on in the venue settings, see Kitchen display.
