Modifiers and the group library
Required and optional groups, one or several options, add-on price and recipe, reusing groups.
A modifier is a choice or an add-on for a dish. A modifier group is a set of such options: “Doneness”, “Sauces”, “Milk”.
Group types
- required — the register asks for a choice when the dish is added to the order. “Doneness” for a steak;
- optional — added if the guest wants it;
- single option — only one thing can be chosen;
- several — several add-ons can be ticked at once.
Price
Each option has its own surcharge. Zero is fine too: “no ice” costs nothing, but the kitchen needs to know.
Add-on recipe
An option can have its own recipe. Then “double cheese” takes a second portion of cheese off the stock, and “with coconut milk” takes coconut milk instead of cow’s milk.
If an add-on has a price but no recipe, you get the money but don’t see the usage. At thirty portions a day that is a noticeable amount missing from the cost.
Group library
A group is created once and attached to any number of dishes. Change what is in the “Sauces” group — and it changes in all thirty dishes at once.
The group card shows which dishes use it — this saves you from an edit that quietly changes half the menu.
Stopping an add-on
An add-on can be taken off sale separately from the dish: the sauce has run out — only the sauce goes grey. Works both at the register and on the website storefront.
