PIN sign-in and switching employees
How a cashier signs in to the register, what to do about a forgotten PIN and why every action carries a name.
The register does not ask for a login and password — only a PIN. This is deliberate: during a shift people sign in dozens of times, and typing an email on a tablet every time is impossible.
How to sign in
Open the register and type your PIN. If it is correct, the sale screen opens and your name appears in the header.
The PIN is issued by the owner or manager in the back office, in the Access section. It can be changed there too — for example, if an employee has seen someone else’s.
Why this matters more than it seems
Every action at the register is signed with the name of whoever is signed in: who opened the order, who deleted an item, who gave a discount, who made a refund. If everyone works under one PIN, the Control section becomes useless — you can see that something happened, but not who did it.
The temptation is understandable: it is faster. The price is being unable to figure things out when the cash does not add up at the end of the month or items start disappearing from orders after being sent to the kitchen.
Confirmation PIN
Some actions require the PIN of an employee with the permission, even if someone else is at the register: a refund, a manual price, closing a receipt without payment, cancelling an item after it was sent to the kitchen. The register shows a confirmation window — the manager comes over and enters their PIN.
Both go into the log: who was working and who confirmed.
Signing out and locking
The “Log out” button in the register menu returns to the PIN screen. The register also returns to this screen by itself after a period of inactivity — so that a stranger cannot place an order in the name of a waiter who has stepped away into the dining room.
If the PIN does not work
- check whether the employee has been dismissed: once access is closed, the PIN stops working immediately;
- check the venue: a PIN works in the venues the person has been given access to;
- after several wrong attempts sign-in is temporarily locked — this protects against guessing; wait and try again.
