Dish variants
Sizes and portions with their own price, cost and recipe; how a variant differs from a modifier.
“Philadelphia 4 pcs” and “Philadelphia 8 pcs” are not one dish with a surcharge. They are different portions with different fish usage and different margins.
How a variant differs from a modifier
| Variant | Modifier | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Another portion of the same dish | An add-on or a choice for the dish |
| Price | Its own, full price | Added to the dish price |
| Recipe | Its own, full recipe | Its own, for the add-on only |
| Visible in the list | Yes, as a separate row | No, inside the card |
Other systems hide sizes in modifiers, and the dish list shows “0 ฿” — no price, no cost, no margin. That way a loss-making large portion can’t be found. So in POSitive variants are visible right away, each with its own row and food cost.
How to add
- Open the dish and add a variant — for example, “small” and “large”.
- Give each one its own price.
- Give each one its own ingredients: a large portion has more of specific ingredients, not more of everything.
- Check the margin of both variants in the dish list.
Order and archive
Variants are sorted by dragging — put the one ordered most often first. A variant that has been sold is not deleted but archived: reports for past months must stay intact.
Prices by sale type
A variant can have its own price for dine-in and for delivery — if that scheme is enabled. An empty price is inherited from the base price, not treated as zero.
